The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt made a solid entrance into May’s Most Played PC games in seventh place, while World of Warcraft slipped out of second for the first time since last year.
Highlights
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive climbed to the number two spot last month, thanks in no small part to its Operation Bloodhound update. League of Legends’ lead is still comfortable, however, with three times as much play time as Valve’s shooter.
DOTA 2 was also a winner, rising two places and landing in third. The International Qualifiers and its new Compendium were major factors in helping the MOBA rise.
Aside from League of Legends, GTAV is the only game that didn’t gain or lose ranks last month. Play time fell 3.31%, however, and its share is only .06% above the game in fifth place, World of Warcraft. We’ll have to wait and see how the summer will treat the open-world shooter.
Speaking of World of Warcraft, the MMO slipped out of second place for the first time since it overtook DOTA 2 in August 2014. While we noticed a declining trend in gameplay for the past few months, a rank change did not occur until now. Though hot fixes and new mounts were released in mid-May, the 11-year-old MMO slipped to fifth place, losing 13.58% of play time.
World of Tanks was our biggest gainer in May, with a 119.41% gameplay increase. While the WGLNA qualifiers occurred in May, 5x experience boosts and in-game sales were likely the biggest play-time drivers.

Diablo 3 fell three spots in May, losing 33.29% of play time. D3 rolled out one patch in the middle of the month and didn’t provide much to keep its player base playing.
Hearthstone gameplay was up 10.13% month-to-month. A cross-promotion with Heroes of the Storm likely contributed to the boost.
Heroes of the Storm dropped two places in May, with a gameplay loss of 9.85%. Though the game went into open beta in late May, the official launch was in June, so we expect play time number to rise next month.
Star Wars: The Old Republic was up a strong 16.03% and four places, thanks in part to May-the-4th celebrations.
Guild Wars 2 and BF4 each lost four places.
Spider Solitaire gained a rank. Guilty parties know what they did.
